Talk2Me is a push-to-talk menu-bar tool for macOS. Hold a key, speak, and your words are pasted wherever your cursor is. It uses Apple's free on-device speech engine by default, and routes to a cloud model only when you ask for more.
Everything happens locally until you decide otherwise. Talk2Me is built to be invisible until you hold the key.
Hold Right Option, speak, release. Your transcript is pasted straight into the frontmost app — Terminal, your editor, Claude Code, Codex, chat, email.
Talk2Me tries Apple's free on-device speech engine first. Audio never leaves your Mac unless you choose a cloud model for a given request.
Free Apple transcription for everyday dictation; automatic fallback to OpenAI, Groq, xAI, or Gemini when you need higher accuracy or unsupported languages.
Optional Apple Intelligence pass fixes punctuation, casing, and filler words locally — no tokens spent, no data sent.
Bring your own provider keys. No subscription, no middleman server, no telemetry. The app talks directly to the provider you pick.
A quiet menu-bar utility. It never presses Enter for you, and falls back to copying the transcript if pasting is unavailable.
Four steps, zero context switching.
Press and hold Right Option from any app. A subtle recording indicator appears in the menu bar.
Dictate a command, a paragraph, or a quick note. Release the key when you're done.
Talk2Me picks the on-device engine first, or your chosen cloud model, and returns clean text.
The transcript is pasted at your cursor. If paste isn't permitted, it's copied with a clear COPY indicator.
Talk2Me treats transcription as a routing decision. Every request starts with Apple's on-device speech recognition — free, offline, and private. The cloud is a deliberate fallback, not the default.
Default to Apple on-device, then bring your own keys for the cloud models you trust. Switch from the menu bar anytime.
Download Talk2Me for macOS, hold Right ⌥, and let your Mac do the typing — privately by default.
The notarized download is being finalized. Requires macOS 13+. On-device routing requires Apple Intelligence on a supported Mac. Cloud providers need your own API key.
